Bequest Language

Planning for the future and creating the legacy you wish to leave is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lasting impact. Making a gift in your will or living trust, known as a bequest, can guarantee that your legacy endures. Your gift may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after all other provisions are specified.

Below is suggested language to use when drafting your bequest.

Sample Language

Unrestricted Endowment

"I, (name), have named APS in my will. Upon my death, I will give, devise, and bequeath (percentage) of my estate or (fixed dollar amount) to benefit the American Physical Society (APS), a 501(c)(3) qualified nonprofit organization located in and existing under the laws of the District of Columbia, and with principal business address of One Physics Ellipse, College Park, MD 20740-3844. Tax Identification Number: (EIN 13-1656610). I would like my gift to be treated as an endowment, whereby the earnings will be used to support the operations and programs of APS, including but not limited to Research Dissemination, Membership and Meetings, Education and Diversity, Outreach, Public Affairs, and International Affairs."

Unrestricted Quasi-endowment

"I, (name), have named APS in my will. Upon my death, I will give, devise, and bequeath (percentage) of my estate or (fixed dollar amount) to benefit the American Physical Society (APS), a 501(c)(3) qualified nonprofit organization located in and existing under the laws of the District of Columbia, and with principal business address of One Physics Ellipse, College Park, MD 20740-3844.
